Every number you actually need

Water off? Pothole? Court date? Need to speak at a Board meeting? It is all here, in one page, with the accountability record attached to each office — what we have asked that department for, and whether they answered.

Emergencies

Call 911. This page is a directory published by a nonprofit, not a dispatch service and not the City. Nobody at the Move Weight Foundation sees anything you do here. For anything time-critical — fire, medical, crime in progress, gas leak, downed line — call 911 first and read this afterwards.

Utilities & billing

Southaven bills water and sewer directly. These are the numbers printed on the City's own bills — we cross-checked them against actual invoices the City released, so we know they are current.

Before you dispute a water bill

The City bills a month behind, and a first bill on a new account can cover an unusual number of days — the Utilities Billing Manager confirmed both in writing. A single account can also have more than one meter. Ask for the read dates, the meter in and meter out, and the CCF used before you argue about the dollar amount.

Southaven bills in CCF (hundreds of cubic feet). One CCF is 748 gallons. How we read the City's bills →

Meetings & how to be heard

Showing up on the record is the single most effective thing on this page.

Board of Aldermen

First and third Tuesday of the month, 6:00 p.m.
City Hall Board Room, 8710 Northwest Dr., Southaven, MS 38671

Agendas and meeting packets are posted before each meeting. The City uploads meeting video usually within an hour of the meeting ending. Agendas, minutes & video →

Planning Commission

Meets separately from the Board and handles rezoning and land-use items — which is where a project's footprint is decided long before it reaches the Aldermen. City calendar →

Speaking at a meeting

What you say in a public meeting becomes part of the official minutes — a permanent record that auditors, reporters and courts can read later. An email to an alderman is not a record in the same way.

  1. Check the agenda first. It is posted before the meeting; find your item.
  2. Ask the City Clerk how to be recognised662-280-6554. Rules on sign-up and time limits are set locally and do change.
  3. Bring the document. Naming a specific record, date and dollar figure is far harder to deflect than a general complaint.
  4. Ask a question that needs an answer on the record. "Was there a recorded vote on the $1,380,900 donation, and on what date?" beats "I'm concerned about xAI."

Who publishes this page

The Move Weight Foundation — not the City of Southaven and not DeSoto County. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with no affiliation to either government, and nothing you submit to us reaches them unless you ask us to file it.

We publish this directory because a resident should not need to know which of three governments handles their problem before they can get it fixed, and because the same office that answers your pothole call is the office that holds the records nobody has published. Those are the same phone number. That is the point.

Every figure here is transcribed from an official published directory and dated. Governments reorganise and numbers change — if one is wrong, tell us and we will fix it and say when we did. For the City's own site, go to southaven.org; for the County, desotocountyms.gov.
